To be your own man

To be your own man is a hard business.
If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened.
But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

Hmm..that seems to touch upon some of those great lines from Paulo Cuelho's acclaimed fable,'The Alchemist'.....

Well, i agree with you Qais...
May i then try out a humble, even if feeble attempt to put some more light on these magical lines?

The attempt itself is surely, well worth all the pains that one takes in trying to master their own selves first..what do you think,Qais?

For no doubt, it needs courage to admit your mistakes openely, and far more convition and sincerity towards your own self to keep on correcting your own mistakes in life all by yourself, all along the way..
It may also mean having to face many stages in life alone, just because you are ready to stand by your beliefs and ideals when just about everything and everyone else tells u to do so otherwise..
And further ,there would then be many occasions, where you yourself would feel like giving it all up and just carry on with life, instead of trying to change so many things that are never easy to accept, let alone change...
So we see that most are not willing to put themselves through such rigours and hardships just for the sake of sticking their own convictions and nothing else..when there always seems to be so many many easier ways out...And thats when we do resign ourselves to our own fate, shrugging it off..in that sense, it sure would be lonely n tiresome a journey..
It would also mean accepting whatever fears you have and having to work hard for ages ,in getting to conquer them..
But at the end of it all, what would matter finally is what we have managed to achieve through all those struggles and harsh experiences ,and all the wonderful lesson of life that we have learned, from our own experiences....

'Nothing Can Shake Us ,
If We Stand Firm'...

I guess this though also seconds on the idea of the "Self", given by the great Allama Iqbal.

As Iqbal would say: "Tighten the knot of thy Ego (or Self)"

Yes, you are right, Manzoor. May be, i liked this quote because it talks about taking charge of one's own self.

Anyways, thanks for leaving a comment.
